Welcome to Season 5! In this post I will be revealing all of the upcoming season changes, meta shifts and more. I will try go into detail onto the thought process behind each decision, please be mindful with every change and nerf we always consider the bigger picture so if one thing is made worse please know it will be compensated in a new, fair method - however we encourage you to share constructive feedback using the #season-five channel in our discord. Which we plan to use as a hub for interaction and further changes leading up to launch on May 1st @ 6pm BST.
Season 5 Change Log
Tribe Size increased from 5 man to 6 man indefinitely.
6 man is the new main stay tribe size for MTS, its the best balance between smaller tribe size and still allowing the possibility of online raiding and defending.
Genesis#2 & Extinction#2 removed from main cluster.
We have decided to remove these 2 maps for reasons I am about to state; For starters, both these maps are the latest and newest DLCs. With these DLCs came new gameplay features, new assets and gameplay choices. We consider these maps separate from the original ARK experience in terms of how its played out and for that reason we feel limiting the cluster to 1 of each of these maps will be beneficial for the following reasons, it makes running OSDs/veins on Extinction, missions on Genesis harder as it they will be more contested and populated. In theory this should make crafted gear (Genesis) and end game blueprints (Extinction) harder to come by and thus slowing down progression by limiting these meta-changing maps to only 1.
During the last season, we heard your feedback on Gacha towers and how they have become very meta and we were seeing serious tribes producing near to 5k element a day just from running these Gacha towers daily. This is not a meta we want to encourage as obtaining an end game resource such as element should be worked for and not as easily obtained through methods that allow AFKing in your base. Therefore, we have decided to remove Gachas entirely, these includes non element dust Gachas. You may be worried with regards to element and off server fobbing but please continue reading our entire post before posting your immediate reactions.
Stack Mod changed from 1000 to 500.
After observing the progression rate in the previous season a key focus of ours for the upcoming season is to try and slow the rate in which tribes can progress whilst also maintaining a balanced PvP environment, as such we will be shifting the Stack Mod from 1000 to 500 for resources. This change will however, not effect the weight reduction of these resources nor will it affect the stack size of ammo. This mod is being developed for MTS and isn't public yet but when it is we will be sure to share it with you all. The reason behind the stack mod change is that it will result in farming and resource gathering being cut in half therefore slowing down progression further. 5x rate servers with 500 stacks with no transfer timers will still be fast and allow for progression.
Further stack size changes
In addition to the change above, Organic Polymer will now stack to 50 (previously 250), Grappling Hooks now stack to 20 (previously 250) and Sweet Vegetable Cakes now stack to 25 (previously 50).
Boss Fights element reward increase
Due to the previously discussed changes with regards to element Gachas we will be increasing the element yield for bosses. Beta & Alpha boss fights on The Center, The Island, and Scorched Earth will now all return double element from boss completion, whereas Ragnarok & Valguero will only return 50% more element. Please note that these changes will only effect Beta & Alpha fights and that Gamma fights will remain with the default element returns. Our reasoning behind this change is to make element more rewarding for tribes who farm for bosses, to compensate for the lack of Gachas also to slow the progression of tek tier. The new boss fight rewards can be seen below;
Gamma Broodmother = 10 Element (Default)
Beta Broodmother = 56 Element (100% Increase)
Alpha Broodmother = 148 Element (100% Increase)
Gamma Megapithecus = 20 Element (Default)
Beta Megapithecus = 110 Element (100% Increase)
Alpha Megapithecus = 220 Element (100% Increase)
Gamma Dragon = 40 Element (Default)
Beta Dragon = 220 Element (100% Increase)
Alpha Dragon = 440 Element (100% Increase)
Gamma Center = 30 Element (Default)
Beta Center = 166 Element (100% Increase)
Alpha Center = 368 Element (100% Increase)
Gamma Manticore = 25 Element (Default)
Beta Manticore = 180 Element (100% Increase)
Alpha Manticore = 380 Element (100% Increase)
Gamma Ragnarok = 65 Element (Default)
Beta Ragnarok = 300 Element (50% Increase)
Alpha Ragnarok = 615 Element (50% Increase)
Gamma Valguero = 85 Element (Default)
Beta Valguero = 382 Element (50% Increase)
Alpha Valguero = 780 Element (50% Increase)
Removed all bugged S+ Structures
TEK Dedicated Storages, Double Doors, Double Doorframes & Ramps will no longer convert from Vanilla to S+ versions through a server restart. You will also see the reintroduction of Large Walls, Stairs, Triangle Foundations, Ceilings and Roofs with the new Season - and not need to worry about them converting.
Added Master Controller & Moeder Trophies to /sellshop
The newest bosses added alongisde Genesis, these trophies will be sellable to our /shop for a points return in Season 5 like all other bosses.
S+ Crafting Stations variants will now all be unlocked
S+ Fabricator, S+ Chemistry Bench, S+ Industrial Forge, S+ Industrial Cooker, S+ Industrial Grill, S+ Fridges, S+ Crafting Table will now all be unlocked by default, allowing you to craft and use these stations mid raid and potentially leading to bases no longer needing to be wiped for the loot.
The time in which it takes for ORP to kick in will be increased from 30 minutes to 1 hour when out of PvP cooldown and increased from 1 hour to 3 hours if logging out during active PvP cooldown (combat logging). We will also be increasing the range of each zone slightly and dropping the amount of zones you can place from 3 to 2 per tribe/map. We will poll ORP changes mid season to see if we want to adjust the Damage/Resistance or amount of placeable zones.
Cryofridge now craftable in player inventory, alongside Cryopods
Quality of life
Achatina removed from /shop, S+ Animal Tender craft cost doubled and slots lowered from 100 to 20.
Again, focussing on rapid, effortless progression. The meta of buying snails and having this structure auto collect infinite amounts of paste resulted in never having to farm it. Instead of outright removing a quality of life item - we will be nerfing it this way. Snails will now have to be tamed, crafting cost of Animal Tender is double and the slots cap at 20 which means the inventory can only hold 10,000 cementing paste when full - which is still alot.
Obelisk building is now allowed, 3x area damage
With the upcoming season we have decided to make a change for the first time in the history of MTS to allow building on Obelisks on all maps. Our thought process behind this decision coincides with the new changes we are making with regards to Boss Fights and lack of Gachas. We believe building on Obelisks may be an attractive prospect and will result in more land structures being erected increasing the number of land bases to FOB on. Yes, we understand this change may split the player base. But to ensure this does not have too much impact, we have made these areas 3x structure damage. Which means building in these areas and having access to your personal obelisk has its compromises. In short - more PvP, land structures & FOBs, only a positive!
Increased Element Dust return when grinding Element in S+ Industrial Grinder to half
Currently with the use of an S+ Grinder you can grind 1 element for 200 dust. We recognise that with the removal of Gachas fobbing off server will become harder and so we will be adjusting the S+ Grinder to now return 500 element dust per element. This is to go alongside the Element/Boss changes coming this season without impacting too much on the ability to FOB off server.
Woolly Rhino buffed & restored to previous version
In detail, increased maximum damage scale from 8x to 12.5x when charging & decreased the time is takes to charge up to max rage metre by 20%. This is in an attempt to combat Gigas, as we would rather buff other creatures & counters instead of messing around with Gigas.
Kentro recoil damage buffed
We will be buffing Kentros recoil damage to some extent, as of right now we are not 100% sure on how significantly we will go with this change but experiments and testing are underway to find a balanced change. We will share more news on this when we have it. This goes alongside the previously mentioned Rhino changes in an attempt to combat Gigas - and before you ask. We will make sure the recoil damage only applies to adult Kentros, not babies.
TEK Jump Pad & Blow Breath attack from Megachelon removed
Megachelon will still be tameable, breedable etc. But the Blow Breath (hold right click) will be disabled alongside the TEK Jump Pad. We won't go into detail why, but let it be known its regarding an exploit that would see alot of bases wiped with this utility.
S+ Crafting Table slots reduced from 300 to 100
Nerf - for the size it was versus the amount it held. It was too much.
Bloodstalker breeding disabled
Bloodstalkers will now function much like Griffins with no imprinting or breeding and shall be restricted only to taming. This decision comes down to similar reasons as to why Manas are disabled, being that they are too fast and discourage fun PvP. Bloodstalkers are new and they move in a very unique way. But we feel this change keeps them at a decent place, whilst still keeping them valuable - same as the Ragnarok Griffin.
Other notable changes
Other changes worth noting include several changes to engrams and base locations in which are the following: Wooden bench engram re-added, S+ Feeding Trough Green Circles removed. Extinction Sunken Tree and Skylight base locations will now be blocked from building alongside further base spots in the new season. Full list will be updated here in the coming days.
~ All changes stated above are subject to change between now and release on May 1st ~
See you all on May 1st.
